On Saturday, November 22, at the Municipal Council Hall of Livigno, the conference “Origins – At the Dawn of an Alpine Community” will take place, a day of studies in memory of Giuseppe Longa dedicated to the history and identity of Livigno.
The event, organized by the Library of Livigno and Mus! Museum of Livigno and Trepalle, represents an opportunity for interdisciplinary discussion among history, geography, linguistics, and archive documentation, aiming to deepen the roots of a unique alpine community, reaffirming the desire of Livigno to be not only a place for tourism and sports, but also an important cultural hub.
The proceedings will be opened with institutional greetings and introduced by Dr. Emanuele Mambretti, moderator of the day.
This will be followed by the presentations of Prof. Guglielmo Scaramellini, with a reflection on “Human Settlement in the Alps: Environment, Culture, Economy, Technique”, and in the afternoon, Prof. Luca Bonardi from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, one of the most prestigious Italian institutions, who will propose “Hypotheses on the Origins of an Alpine Settlement”.
The day will continue with the interventions of Ilario Silvestri and Lorenza Fumagalli from the Centro Studi Storici Alta Valtellina, and with the concluding presentation by Prof. Guido Borghi from the University of Genoa on “Livigno and Trepalle – Toponymic Continuity Through the Ages”.
The appointment aims to be a tribute to the memory of Giuseppe Longa, a figure of great importance for the culture and community of Livigno, and a moment of sharing among scholars, citizens, and enthusiasts of local history.
