Festa for the Sciori or Guest Festival

In Aprica every year, tourists, the guests, "the Sciori" are greeted with a beautiful festival in contrada San Pietro, where Aprica was born.

Sciori, gentlemen, was the way tourists were called in the past, and they are the guests of the festival where the district of S. Pietro, by opening old houses, cellars, and stables, offers a dive into the past.

The locals in traditional costumes, to renew hospitality and welcome to those who choose the Aprica area to spend their holidays, showcase the trades and tools of the past and the preparation of artisanal products.

All participants are offered hot tea and mulled wine, along with tastings of some typical dishes and products: from panvì to chisciöi, from polenta taragna to local cheese, to braschér (roasted chestnuts), café da dumèga (barley coffee) as well as the inevitable sciatt and the Aprica beer 1212.

Men cut wood by hand, women knit, and in the alleys, children and adults in traditional costumes meet.

A highlight of the contrada is the old oven of a historic family, with an attached cellar for aging and an icehouse, where you can taste a special violino di capra.

Thanks to singing in the most picturesque corners, both big and small in traditional costumes strolling through the alleys and artisans at work, even the coldest evening is warmed by a splendid festive atmosphere.

If you want to be enveloped by the atmospheres of the past, those now almost forgotten, take a trip to the Festa per i Sciori in Aprica.

It is one of the Valtellinese traditions that remain alive thanks to the inhabitants of Aprica, through whom traditions, the times of old, and old customs, habits, places, and flavors are rediscovered.
