The mayor Kleemann led the German delegation visiting the city to plan new activities
The Olympic Saturday in Sondrio, which gathered thousands and thousands of people for the arrival of the torch, also included the delegation from Sindelfingen, led by the new mayor Markus Kleemann, who arrived in the city last Friday and left on Sunday. "Mayor Kleemann, for the first time in Sondrio, was impressed by the spectacle and especially by the extraordinary participation - emphasizes mayor Marco Scaramellini -: they complimented us also for the walkway on the Cassandre and in general for what the city has to offer. It was a pleasure to welcome them during these days of Olympic vigil to renew a friendship and a collaboration that lasts over sixty years."
For Mayor Kleemann, elected in 2025, for municipal officials Roland Narr and Fabienne Schimek, and for representatives of Ispas, president Brigitte Stegmaier and Italia Frazzetta, it was a brief but rich visit filled with meetings and discussions, useful for planning new activities, under the guidance of the councilor for Twin Towns Raffaella Volpatti. Mayors Kleemann and Scaramellini, a few months after the exchange of letters following the elections, officially met on Friday afternoon at Palazzo Pretorio, shortly before the start of the municipal council. After greeting Mayor Scaramellini, Vice Mayor Francesca Canovi, and the president of the municipal council Francesco Romualdi, Kleemann, in front of all the councilors, spoke about his first six months as mayor, the projects, and the difficulties, which were very similar to those of our municipalities, renewing the commitment to collaborate with Sondrio.
The next day, Saturday, the visit to the city extended to the walkway on the Cassandre: the presentation by municipal councilor and project designer Francesco Venzi was very appreciated by the German friends. Councilor Volpatti and Vice Mayor Canovi coordinated the meeting held at Palazzo Pretorio, during which the foundations for future projects were laid. "In these months, we have had numerous exchanges - explains Councilor Volpatti - but meeting and discussing in person is quite another thing, and it allowed us to define the next steps in view of the publication of a European call to which we will participate. Each of us presented our vision and ideas in the fields of sport, culture, and tourism, finding complete harmony: the intent is to make the twinning grow in the wake of the activities promoted over many decades, particularly in recent years, thanks to European funding."
On Sunday morning, departure with a goodbye that is a see you soon, in June to be precise, when a delegation from Sondrio, as is tradition, will reach Sindelfingen on the occasion of Strassenfest, the most important event of Sindelfingen, to participate in a meeting with the twin cities. Just yesterday, there was an email to Councilor Volpatti from official Schimek, who, on behalf of the mayor, thanked for the warm welcome and confirmed the promise to further strengthen the partnership by working together on new projects.
