The city of Sondrio pays tribute to the victims of the Foibe on the occasion of the "Day of Remembrance", with a commemorative ceremony that will take place on Tuesday, February 10, at 11:30 AM, at the Parco della Rimembranza.

Civil, military, and religious authorities, exiles and citizens will gather under the plaque affixed in 2019 on the wall that borders the north side of the green area, where official speeches will be held and a laurel wreath will be laid in memory of the victims of the foibe, the Fiuman, Istrian, and Dalmatian exiles. The ceremony will also be attended by Lorenzo Galli, coordinator for Lombardy of the Union of Istrians, with whom the Municipality of Sondrio signed a memorandum of understanding in 2021, aiming to promote events to raise awareness of the tragedy that occurred on the Eastern Front, particularly among young people.

The national commemoration of the "Day of Remembrance" was established by the Italian State in 2004 to "preserve and renew the memory of the tragedy of the Italians and all the victims of the foibe, of the exodus from their lands of the Istrians, Fiumans, and Dalmatians in the post-World War II period, and the more complex story of the eastern border." During World War II and in the immediate post-war period, it is estimated that there were 20 thousand victims and 250 thousand exiles. Since 2019, the Municipality of Sondrio has honored them by celebrating the "Day of Remembrance".
