The second edition of Morbegno Alps' Festival has officially kicked off, the event that brings to the city meetings, cultural events, shows, and initiatives related to the mountains and their identities. All of this with a clear objective: to enhance the territory and engage all types of audiences, addressing themes that are, now more than ever, relevant to us.

Opening the event was a parade that traversed the city center, bringing a festive atmosphere and participation to the streets. The Olympic mascots, Milo and Tina, together with the Bandella, the folk group from Livigno, the folk group from Gerola, and the sports clubs of Morbegno animated the streets with their enthusiasm and performances. A procession that also involved local institutions, numerous citizens, and visitors who wanted to take part in this event. The route, which started from Piazza Sant'Antonio, went through Via Garibaldi and Via Nani, before concluding in Piazza San Giovanni, where local authorities took turns speaking.

“Morbegno Alps’ Festival represents our ideal bridge to the upcoming Winter Olympics – said Patrizio Del Nero, Mayor of Morbegno –. We want everyone to participate, as a cohesive and united community, because we are capable of making a good impression even in a context of global relevance. The opening of this edition is an important occasion to discuss and deepen topics concerning the life of the Alps, the future of young generations, culture, history, and the economy of our territory. Morbegno, as an alpine city, aims to contribute concretely to the goals of the Convention for the Protection of the Alps, through events that connect multiple generations and stories tied by a single thread: the sense of belonging to our province. We want everyone to participate, because initiatives like this represent a tribute to our identity as citizens.”

After the speech from the Mayor of Morbegno, the representatives of the attending institutions spoke: Raffaella Attianese, Deputy Prefect of Sondrio, Emanuele Nonini, representing the Province of Sondrio, Alessandro Cian, for the Montana Community of Valtellina di Morbegno, Luca Della Bitta, president of the BIM, Sergio Schena, councilor of the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026.

In the evening, at the Auditorium, there was the event “Fitz Roy – tribute to Renato Casarotto” where climbers Marco Majori, Matteo Della Bordella, and Tommaso Lamantia shared their adventure in Patagonia with the audience.

The inaugural day officially launched a calendar full of events, which will see the inauguration of the exhibition “Snow and Identity: the White Century of Valtellina”, the traditional Santa Lucia descent, the docufilm “The One Hundred Days” dedicated to life in the huts, the parade of the 5th Alpine Regiment with the band, and the evening “The Alpini tell their stories.” For the little ones, there will be workshops, creative activities, and the Spheric Cinema dedicated to the polar world.

Morbegno Alps’ Festival is an event organized by the Municipality of Morbegno, with the collaboration of many local and provincial partners and with the contribution of resources from the Lombardy Region.
