On November 19, 2025, at the Council Hall of the Province of Sondrio, the annual report regarding the Cycling Tourism Project of the Province of Sondrio 2025 was presented. Bicycle-related tourism in Valtellina, across its four main areas — road biking, mountain biking, gravel, and cycling tourism — continues to show constant growth, with more and more enthusiasts choosing to spend their holidays along the roads, passes, trails, and bike paths of the valley. This increase has been made possible also by effective promotion and communication activities carried out by public and private entities: hosting stages of the Giro d’Italia, international races, events and festivals, testimonials, and participation in specialized fairs. Thus, Valtellina confirms itself as an unmissable destination for cycling enthusiasts.

Since 2018, a pool of public entities — Province of Sondrio, BIM - Bacino Imbrifero Montano dell’Adda, ERSAF, Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio, Mountain Communities, and involved Municipalities — has entrusted the Tourist Consortium Media Valtellina with the coordination of the cycling tourism promotion project in the area. The press conference was presented by Pierluigi Negri, director of the Tourist Consortium Media Valtellina and project manager. Also present were Davide Menegola, President of the Province of Sondrio, and Elio Moretti, President of APF Valtellina. The strength of the project lies mainly in the collaboration among all local institutions and the active participation of volunteers, law enforcement, civil protection, and ANAS, who ensure the smooth execution of all initiatives.

The number of cycling enthusiasts in the area is constantly increasing, thanks also to the legendary alpine passes such as Stelvio, Gavia, Mortirolo, Spluga, and more. The year 2025 marked the conclusion of an important cycle, with particular attention to the promotion of the Olympic venues through the Giro d’Italia. In particular, great visibility was given to the unprecedented arrival at Mottolino in Livigno, the most viewed stage of the Giro 2024, and the important arrival in Bormio, whose footage showcased the beauties of our territory. Regarding the Giro d’Italia, negotiations are already underway for the candidacy of the Province of Sondrio for the stages of 2027.

The Enjoy Stelvio Valtellina project, which is continually growing, recorded over 25,000 presences in 2025, of which more than 60% came from abroad, confirming itself as a reference international experience. In support of this success, other historical events are also promoted such as Granfondo Santini, Mapei Day, Gravellina — which enhances the terraced landscape of Valtellina — and Roda Tellina, in addition to Valchiavenna Gravel Escape.

During the press conference, some news for the new year was also anticipated with the Tour de Suisse included among the appointments in the dense calendar of cycling tourism 2026. Finally, with the new initiative called TROFEO DOWNHILL RIDER CUP 2026, Trofeo Regione Lombardia, Valtellina and Valchiavenna – included in the COPPA ITALIA circuit, the project is dedicated to enhancing the bike parks of Bormio, Aprica, and Madesimo and confirms the province's commitment to promoting cycling tourism and outdoor sports.

“Cycling tourism is today one of the most important drivers for the promotion of our territory. The data from the 2025 report confirms that Valtellina is now a reference point in the alpine landscape for those who love to experience the mountains sustainably, actively, and authentically. The Province will continue to support this vision, fostering collaboration among entities, operators, and local communities to grow a tourism model capable of generating value and quality of life for the entire territory.”
Davide Menegola, President of the Province of Sondrio.

“Seeing so many enthusiasts from Italy and abroad choosing Valtellina is proof that we are heading in the right direction. Bike-related tourism is not just sport: it is a way to discover the territory, its traditions, and its identity.”
Elio Moretti, President of APF Valtellina.
