From the sofa to the auditorium (without knowing what awaited me)

It could have been a couch evening. The kind where, after ten hours in front of the computer, you feel the need to turn off your brain and disconnect from the world...

But no… I left the house.

I went out. Not due to a sudden cultural impulse, but because of my little anti-procrastination trick: never park the car in the garage. So if the car is outside… I have to use it.

And where did I end up?
At the opening of the festival “Le Altre Note” – fifteenth edition, starting on July 25.

It was supposed to take place at Castel Masegra in Sondrio, but, thanks to the rather "playful" weather during this period, it was moved to the Auditorium Torelli. I would say it was a perfect choice.

I sat down (not knowing what to expect) and the concert of the Quintetto Cabirria began. I didn't know them. I had never listened to chamber music live. I come from pop, rock, from playlists with “volume all the way up”.
Well... a world opened up for me.

And I walked out with chills. The real ones.

On stage, the Quintetto Cabiria: Matteo Salerno, Luciano Zadro, Stefano Nanni, Roberto Bartoli, and Gianluca Nanni.

Pure talent. They played soundtracks from films we all know: La dolce vita, Amarcord, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, Giù la testa, Mission, Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo… I could go on.

Composed by Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone, two names that need no introduction.

But it wasn't just music. It was a journey into the films. Scenes flowed in the background, and they played. Every note was tailored to the image. And I was there, very close to the instruments, to the musicians' breathing, to the vibration of the flute (which blew me away).

It was wonderful to relive scenes from famous films that are no longer shown, to be able to dust off the most beautiful scenes with great interpreters who made cinema history. It was like watching a film, but with your soul wide open.

And C’era una volta il West... gave me chills. An unforgettable soundtrack heard live...

I discovered myself curious, surprised, happy to have dared. Because yes, I am someone who loves to try (even though I had some prejudice about classical music). This time it literally swept me away.

I found myself in silence, enchanted by the sensations that the concert was able to convey to me and to everyone present.

Indeed, I spoke with some people I invited to participate, and they confirmed...
At the end of the evening, I took a few photos, chatted with the musicians – really nice and approachable.

I also met Francesco and Stefano Parrino. Two brothers, two internationally renowned musicians, two minds that skillfully run this festival.

Stefano plays the flute and is also a teacher, concert performer, and communicator. Francesco is the artistic director, plays a violin from the 1800s, and is a volcano of skills.
I talked with them about music, passion, and talent. I also had a chat with their mom, who was a pianist. Their grandfather was also a musician.

I therefore understood that music is truly in their DNA.

We took some photos, exchanged smiles, and I returned home with one certainty: I won’t forget this evening because it gave me so many beautiful emotions that I had almost forgotten while spending so many hours behind a screen.

Advice from a friend:

Go and see a concert from the Le Altre Note festival.
There are about fifty until September 20, in locations more beautiful than the other, with goosebumps-inducing artists.
📍 You can find the entire program on Calendario Valtellinese

Go out, listen, let yourself be amazed.
Trust someone who thought she would stay on the couch.
