Livigno welcomes with great satisfaction the inauguration of the new Enel primary cabin, a strategic infrastructure that marks a decisive step towards a more modern and sustainable energy system serving the community and future international events..
Present at the inauguration ceremony were the President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana, the Mayor of Livigno Remo Galli, the CEO of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 Andrea Varnier, the Director of Enel Grids and Innovation Gianni Vittorio Armani, and the CEO of E-Distribuzione Vincenzo Ranieri, demonstrating the strategic importance of the work for the entire territory and for the Olympic event.
Built at an altitude of 2,177 meters, the primary cabin is now the highest in Italy and represents a fundamental investment to ensure the energy needed for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. This is an infrastructure destined to leave a lasting mark on the territory: it will not only support the needs of the Olympic venues but also provide Livigno with a more stable and efficient network for the benefit of residents, businesses, and accommodation facilities.
“The Olympics represent a unique opportunity to accelerate projects that will remain heritage of our community. The new primary cabin is not just a functional work for the Games, but a concrete legacy that improves quality of life, supports tourism development, and prepares Livigno for the energy challenges of the future. It is an example of how the Olympic push can become a permanent value for the territory.” said Luca Moretti, President of Livigno Next.
The construction of the plant has been guided by a strongly sustainability-oriented approach. The underground structure allows for harmonious integration into the alpine landscape, minimizing visual impact. In addition, the 27,000 m³ of material from the excavations have been entirely reused for community-dedicated projects, such as the new municipal parking lot at Passo Eira, in line with the principles of the circular economy.
The project also includes an extensive upgrade of the electrical network in Alta Valtellina:
– 60 km of underground lines
– 4 new secondary cabins
– 12 cabins renovated with advanced technologies for remote control and automation
“For Livigno, this infrastructure is a future investment: it allows us to confidently host the Olympic events and, above all, to enhance a legacy that will remain for future generations” concludes Luca Moretti.
