The Olympic flame of Milan Cortina 2026 will stop in Sondrio on Saturday, January 31, and it will be a great celebration. There will be 18 torchbearers who will make their way along the city route to arrive in Piazza Garibaldi where the Olympic cauldron will be set up.

The names of three of these, indicated by the Municipality of Sondrio, were announced today during the event presentation by the Councilor for Tourism, Sport, and the 2026 Olympics, Michele Diasio: they are the grosino Martino Sala and the sondriesi Sandro Vanoi and Simone Bertini.

The torch will arrive in town from Tirano at 6:40 PM, in the Trippi area, from where the first torchbearer of the Sondrio stage will depart, but the event in Piazza Garibaldi will start at 5 PM.

“The arrival of the Olympic flame and the lighting of the cauldron are extraordinary events, an experience that everyone deserves to live, especially those who share the values of sport - highlighted Councilor Diasio -. As a Municipality, we have asked schools and sports clubs to participate by bringing children and youngsters to liven up the square, and we have already received various confirmations.” There is still time to confirm participation in the day: schools, clubs, and sports groups can write to the Events Office of the Municipality of Sondrio, eventi@comune.sondrio.it.

Characterizing the moment dedicated to the city will be ski mountaineering, a discipline dear to the Sondrio territory that makes its debut as an Olympic sport, with competitions taking place in Bormio.

It will be the champion Robert Antonioli, from the stage, who will present it and comment on the videos of the great classics, while the technical commissioner Fabio Meraldi and three blue athletes will connect from the Pyrenees.

The Olympic flame will enter the city from Via Toti, coming from Trippi, and then continue along the streets Sauro and Mazzini until the roundabout of Viale Milano, traverse it until Via De Simoni, move to Piazzetta Carbonera towards Via dei Palazzi, until Piazza Quadrivio, and pass in front of the Museo Valtellinese di Storia e Arte.

From there it will arrive in Piazza Campello, then it will travel along Corso Italia until Piazza Garibaldi. From the stage set up in the square, it will be possible to follow the torchbearers' run live through a large screen.

The arrival of the last one is scheduled for 7:30 PM with the flame immediately afterwards lighting the cauldron.
