Casa Parravicini is located in the historic center of Castione Andevenno, at Via San Rocco 14, just a short walk from the church of San Martino. Surrounded by vineyards and gardens, the house is enclosed by a large Italian garden, which adds to the charm of the entire complex.​

🕰️ A bit of history

Built between the late 16th and early 17th century, Casa Parravicini was the residence of the noble Parravicini family, of Milanese-Lombard origin. The building is a significant example of Valtellinese noble residential architecture of the time, characterized by sobriety and elegance.​

🏗️ Architecture and features

Casa Parravicini has a compact structure made of plastered stone masonry, arranged over three above-ground floors, a basement, and an underground level. The original horizontal structures include vaulted ceilings and wooden ceilings. The vertical connection is provided by a stone staircase with a landing.​

Inside, you can find:

  • An entrance hall with vaulted ceilings and original stone floors.
  • A corridor with the same characteristics, at the end of which was a private chapel, now transformed into a technical room.
  • Two levels of cellars, one of which is connected underground to an adjacent rustic building where there is a wine press.

     

The polygonal gabled roof is built with timber beams on walls and a slate covering.​

La duplice denominazione del comune di Castione Andevenno è abbastanza recente. Essa fu adottata forse tra il 1860 e il 1865, trascurando così quella storica di Castiglione (o Castione) di Sotto che era usata per evitare confusioni con Castiglione (o Castione) di Sopra, oggi Castionetto, frazione di Chiuro; servì soprattutto per distinguere Castione in Valtellina da altri comuni omonimi e consentì nel contempo di onorare la frazione di Andevenno che è sicuramente la località più antica di tutto il territorio comunale. Secondo alcuni studiosi essa avrebbe origini nord-etrusche e per altri trarrebbe la propria denominazione dal gentilizio romano Andivius, se non dal nome illirico Andenna. Nel territorio comunale, per quanto si sa, non sono state reperite documentazioni archeologiche che convalidino la prima ipotesi, mentre, secondo lo storico Enrico Besta, vi furono trovate delle monete che potrebbero testimoniare il passaggio, se non lo stanziamento, di soldati, mercanti o fuggiaschi in epoca romana.Scopri di più.
