A treasure of art and faith in the heart of Valtellina
In the picturesque village of Mello, in Valtellina, stands the Church of San Fedele, dedicated to the protomartyr San Fedele, evangelizer of the Church of Como during the persecutions of Diocletian and Maximian Herculean. The apse, facing east, attests to the ancient origin of the building, which was completely rebuilt in the early 18th century.
🎨 An interior rich in masterpieces
Inside, the chapels are enriched by valuable paintings by Carlo Innocenzo Carloni, one of the most significant representatives of Rococo painting in Europe. The same artist created the scenes that decorate the choir, framed by the elegant quadratures of Giuseppe Coduri. The vault features frescoes by the painter from Delebio, Eliseo Fumagalli (20th century).
💎 Gifts of art and devotion
The church is adorned with marbles, inlay works, and goldsmithing, mostly gifts from emigrants, particularly to Rome.
