A journey into the heart of Alpine geology at Castel Masegra
In the suggestive Castel Masegra in Sondrio, the Fulvio Grazioli Collection offers a unique journey to discover the mineralogical heritage of Valtellina and Valchiavenna.
Today integrated into the exhibition path of the CAST - Castello delle Storie di Montagna, this collection is one of the most important in the Alpine arc.
📚 The Fulvio Grazioli Collection
The collection is the result of the passion of Fulvio Grazioli (1913–1991), who collected over 12,000 specimens mainly from Valmalenco and other areas of the province of Sondrio since 1925.
Today, about 500 selected samples are on display, encompassing:
- Rare and unique minerals from around the world
- Mineralogical species discovered for the first time in Valtellina
- Specimens from the Fondazione Bombardieri, the Instituto Valtellinese di Mineralogia (IVM), and local public collections
Fulvio Grazioli's contribution led to the discovery of 31 new mineral species for Valmalenco and 12 new collection sites.
