Ponte In Valtellina

Discover the Ethnographic Museum of Ponte in Valtellina: a journey through ancient crafts, daily life, and agricultural traditions of Valtellina.

The Etnographic Museum of Ponte in Valtellina tells, with simplicity and precision, the daily life of the past agricultural world. A journey through objects, environments, and tools that convey the rural identity of a mountain community, made up of hard work, ingenuity, and passed-down traditions.

🏫 A story born from the ground up

The museum is located on the ground floor of the former Jesuit College, now a middle school. The collection is the result of a local initiative started in the 1970s by a group of citizens, with the support of the Municipality, who began collecting objects related to agricultural and domestic life.

In the 1990s, the collection finally found a larger and more organized space. After a long break due to maintenance work, the museum reopened in 2010 with a new thematic setup.

🌾 The exhibition path

The museum is divided into thematic rooms that follow the rhythm of the agricultural seasons, allowing visitors to experience a year of farming work:

  • Fieldwork: plowing, sowing, harvesting
  • Grape harvest and winemaking: tools for grape picking and wine production
  • Animal husbandry: haymaking, animal care
  • Spinning and weaving: tools for wool processing
  • Domestic environment: tools for laundry, cooking, and heating

Each environment is carefully curated, with authentic objects donated by families from the town and surrounding areas. It is a simple museum but rich in content, where every displayed piece tells a story.
