A Renaissance masterpiece between faith and art
In the heart of Morbegno stands the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Assunta, a masterpiece of Lombard Renaissance, consecrated in 1506 and inspired by Bramante's classicism.
🎨 A journey into sacred art
Inside, an extraordinary wooden altarpiece, made by Giovan Angelo and Tiburzio Del Maino between 1516 and 1519, stands out: a true Renaissance temple, enriched with statues, reliefs, and a precious fresco of the Virgin on the Throne from 1440.
The altarpiece was enhanced by the paintings and gilding of Gaudenzio Ferrari and Fermo Stella. The 18th-century frescoes, such as the masterpiece by Gian Pietro Romegialli in the second bay, complete the work.
The sanctuary also houses a Renaissance polyptych attributed to Vincenzo De Barberis, splendid stained glass windows, and 16th-century frescoes that have been recently restored in the Chapter room.
