The sweet polenta fritters with melted dark chocolate are a creative recipe from the Valtellinese peasant tradition, showing how even the simplest dishes can become irresistible 🍯✨

Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, these fritters are flavored with lemon zest, sweetened with sugar, and finished with a drizzle of hot dark chocolate. Ideally fried in lard, for an authentic taste and unmatched crunchiness. A perfect idea to reuse polenta in a sweet way! 😍

🛒 Ingredients for 4 people

  • 300 g of leftover polenta
  • 100 g of granulated sugar
  • 100 g of dark chocolate
  • 50 g of white flour
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon
  • Powdered sugar or unsweetened cocoa, to taste for decoration
  • Lard (or seed oil) for frying

👩‍🍳 Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the leftover polenta with the sugar, flour, and grated lemon zest.
  2. Work until you have a compact, homogeneous, and easily moldable dough.
  3. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 5 mm.
  4. Cut out regular shapes (squares, circles, diamonds...) with a knife or pastry cutter.

🔥 Frying

  1. Heat plenty of lard (or seed oil) in a deep pan.
  2. Fry the fritters a few at a time, until they are golden and crispy on both sides.
  3. Drain on paper towels to remove excess fat.

🍫 Final Decoration

  1. Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave.
  2. Place the fritters on a serving plate, drizzle with the melted chocolate, and dust with powdered sugar or cocoa to taste.
