🍩 Marunet di Villa di Chiavenna: soft and fragrant fried pastries

A typical recipe from Valchiavenna, easy to prepare and perfect for any festive occasion 🎉🍋

Introduction

The Marunet are traditional fried sweets from Villa di Chiavenna, soft golden balls with a delicate lemon scent.
Typical of the Valtellinese peasant cuisine, these pastries were made for village and family celebrations, especially during carnival or local festivals.
Easy to prepare with simple ingredients, they are perfect to be enjoyed immediately after frying, perhaps accompanied by a glass of sweet wine or a warm infusion. 😋

📝 Ingredients

  • 500 g of 00 flour
  • 250 g of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ glass of milk
  • ½ packet of baking powder
  • ½ glass of seed oil
  • Lemon juice (to taste for fragrance)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Oil for frying (seed oil, abundant)

👩‍🍳 Procedure

  1. Place the flour in a mound on a work surface or in a large bowl.
  2. In the center add: the eggs, sugar, milk, seed oil, salt and lemon juice.
  3. Add the baking powder and knead everything well until you get a soft and homogeneous dough.
  4. Shape the dough into balls the size of a walnut.
  5. Heat abundant oil for frying in a high-sided pan.
  6. Fry the marunet a few at a time, until they are puffed and golden brown on all sides.
  7. Drain on absorbent paper and, if you like, dusted with granulated or powdered sugar.

🍽️ When to enjoy them
