Intelligence is the theme of the 2025 edition
Bormio (SO) – July 16, 2025 – The Milanesiana confirms its appointment with culture, art, and thought in Bormio for 2025. From July 24 to 28, the festival conceived and directed by Elisabetta Sgarbi brings a rich program of meetings, music, cinema, art, and science to the heart of Alta Valtellina, dedicated this year to the theme of Intelligence.
Now in its 9th edition in Bormio, The Milanesiana continues its mission of intertwining disciplines and languages, offering the public a high-level cultural proposal with the participation of personalities from the world of literature, science, music, and cinema. As always, the program will be enriched by collateral events related to the culinary and folkloric tradition of the area, which make the Valtellinese experience of the festival unique.

Voices from the territory
A precious gift to the territory
The Mayor of Bormio, Silvia Cavazzi, enthusiastically emphasizes:
“Among music, art, literature, and theater, the passage of The Milanesiana gives us a surprising program, with talented and charismatic artists who will enchant the audience. A precious gift to Bormio, to the residents and tourists for which we thank Elisabetta Sgarbi, who every year manages to amaze us, and those who support us. We are honored to host the final stage of this year's journey of the prestigious festival dedicated to intelligence in its manifestations, told with different languages. We couldn’t be happier.”
Culture and territory: a winning union
The Milanesiana is a symbol of dialogue and growth, as recounts the President of the Province, Davide Menegola:
“Welcoming The Milanesiana in Valtellina is a matter of great pride for our territory, which confirms its ability to converse with the highest expressions of national and international culture.”
“After that of Sondrio, the stage in Bormio, in the heart of our mountains and at a time when we prepare to take center stage in the 2026 Winter Olympics, is a strong signal:
culture and sport can and must be instruments of growth, openness, and connection between
local identities and global horizons. I thank Elisabetta Sgarbi for her vision and for choosing
once again our land as a stage for beauty, thought, and creativity.”
The silence that speaks to the heart
Among the surprises of this year, the exhibition “New Silences” by Carlo Verdone, hosted at the headquarters of Banca Popolare di Sondrio, a historical partner of the initiative. As Mario Alberto Pedranzini, Managing Director and General Director, recalls:
“This year we are also happy to renew the collaboration with The Milanesiana for the Bormio stage, a project that enriches the cultural offerings of the city and enhances the bond between art, territory, and community. We are particularly proud to host the exhibition “New Silences” by Carlo Verdone, which, through images, invites us to rediscover the value of deep listening and reflection, in a world often dominated by noise. In line with the message of the exhibition, we believe that listening represents the first step in truly understanding the needs of people and transforming them into concrete actions. It is on this value that our Bank has built, over time, an authentic bond with the territory and its inhabitants.”
Emotion and reflection: the strength of culture
Strengthening the value of the festival as a meeting space between art and thought is also the support of the BIM Consortium of the Adda, which voices a broad and inclusive vision. So says its President Luca Della Bitta:
“We are honored to welcome The Milanesiana in Valtellina, with its high-quality cultural proposal and the great artists that animate it. The program in Bormio alternates music with art, literature with theater, all of which develop the guiding theme of this edition, intelligence, both human and artificial. For the audience, it will be days filled with pure emotion but also reflection, with culture opening up to introspection, so that everyone interprets it with their own sensibility. As the BIM Consortium of the Adda, we are pleased to support an event of great appeal and to applaud singers, actors, and athletes who will give the audience moments to remember.”
Science, nature, and future
The link between intelligence and the territory also passes through scientific research and environmental conservation. With the screening of the film Hopeless Dreamers, the Stelvio National Park – which this year celebrates ninety years since its founding – shares with the public its most authentic asset: knowledge.
“The core of a National Park is the research activity that takes place within it; this is the source of all the knowledge we have today about these magnificent territories.” explains Franco Claretti, Director of Stelvio National Park. “There are research projects that began with the very birth of the Park, and in these 90 years we have accumulated experiences and knowledge that allow us today over 50 research projects in collaboration with national and international institutions. This data heritage is the fundamental tool that has allowed us to describe, manage, and protect these mountains more and more effectively over these 90 years, but it is also the foundation of knowledge that is essential today to understand how to tackle the serious environmental challenges of our present and to hypothesize solutions to mitigate their effects.”

Bormio: sports, culture, and spas
Located at an altitude of 1,225 meters, Bormio is situated in a wide natural amphitheater in the heart of the Alps. The white of the perennial snow of the glaciers, the deep green of the woods and meadows, the blue of the sky, and the transparency of the waters are the colors that characterize its landscape. A paradise for lovers of sports, nature, art, and culture. In winter, Bormio and its area offer over 180 kilometers of alpine, Nordic, and snowboarding slopes, while in summer there is the possibility of skiing on the glacier of Passo dello Stelvio.
Particularly fascinating are the excursions for ski mountaineering and snowshoeing in the trails of the Stelvio National Park which, during the summer season, transform into over 600 kilometers of routes to cover with your mountain bike, on foot, or on horseback. Additionally, for road bike enthusiasts, it's possible to take on some of the greatest climbs that have helped make cycling noble in Italy and around the world: Passo dello Stelvio, Passo del Gavia, and Mortirolo.
A nine-hole golf course, an ice palace, a curling rink, tennis courts, and many other activities allow you to fully enjoy the pleasure of the mountains.
A walk through the splendid historic center of the town, with its churches, palaces, and museums, also allows you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of times gone by of what for 700 years was a small communal democracy in the heart of the Alps.
Without forgetting, finally, the warm thermal waters of the centers of Bormio Terme, Bagni Nuovi, and Bagni Vecchi, known since Roman times.
High-quality infrastructure and services, a millennia-old history to discover, world-class events, and, of course, the unmistakable flavors of Valtellinese cuisine: this is Bormio, the Magnificent Land.
