On 1st November, a day to live an accessible and safe experience thanks to specially adapted facilities

Sport, participation and inclusion at the event “Sondrio, speed without barriers”, promoted by the Wheelchair Karting association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Sondrio, taking place on Sunday 1st November in the town centre. Throughout the day, participants will have the chance to get to know the world of karting and experience something accessible, inclusive and safe, with go-kart models specially adapted to meet the different needs of people with disabilities. With two-seater go-karts, even those who cannot drive independently will be able to enjoy the experience in complete safety, thanks to the presence of an experienced driver on board. The goal of the Municipal Administration and the Wheelchair Karting association, founded in 2020, is to make a concrete contribution to breaking down the physical and cultural barriers associated with disability, proving that sport and fun can foster inclusion and social interaction.

The event will run from 10:00 am at the forecourt of the Croce Rossa headquarters in Sondrio, at the Piastra. The programme includes track tests with accessible karts, demonstrations of kart therapy open to children, young people and adults, with music and entertainment. For lunch, PizzAutobus Valtellina will be there, the employment-inclusion project for autistic young people, along with PintAlpina, an artisanal and social brewery offering training pathways, work placements and job-integration opportunities for young people with different abilities. The day will be accompanied by music from the “Antonio Lamotta” Music Academy.

The event has the patronage of the Municipality of Sondrio, as well as the support of numerous private sponsors. “We’re pleased to host in our city an initiative that gives people with disabilities and different levels of mobility the chance to drive a go-kart, thanks to the adapted vehicles made available – this is the comment from Councillor for Social Services Maurizio Piasini -. We thank the Wheelchair Karting association for sharing our idea of bringing to Sondrio an event that promotes this cause throughout Italy, with the hope that many people will choose this experience and share the emotions they will experience with all the participants.”
