"OF WORDS AND SILENCE": CRISTINA TIRINZONI PRESENTS HER NEW POETRY COLLECTION
The public event will take place on Thursday 15 October at the Rajna Library, introduced by Councillor Marcella Fratta, who will speak with the author
The relationship between words and silence, the value of language, and the need to give words back their weight, their precision, and their ability to reveal—this is the reflection from which Cristina Tirinzoni’s new collection of poems was born. Born in Sondrio, the author’s collection, titled "Of words and silence", will be presented on Thursday 15 October at 6 p.m. at the Rajna Library, in conversation with the Councillor for Culture, Education and Instruction Marcella Fratta.
The book, which brings together around fifty poems, also includes the introductory essay, “Writing Silence”, in which the author looks at the growing impoverishment of language. «We live in an era in which silence has been banned», Cristina Tirinzoni says. «Once silence is gone, we’re left with nothing but a heavy shroud of words: tired, worn out, worn down words which, instead of revealing, conceal, get in the way, mislead, distort, turn everything into spectacle—and no longer say anything. Words, however, matter: they deserve all our care, attention and consideration. They are one of the few things we genuinely have. Words need to be given meaning again. That’s what “the poet” tries to do. In a time of profound crisis, poetic language can tear open everyday reality, and in that sense becomes an act of resistance against the world’s chaos. And at the same time, I believe silence is not at all an empty space to be filled: it is a presence— a form of density, a space in which words can finally find their resonance again. That is precisely where my poetic research is situated: in the fine space between words and silence, between what is said and what barely comes to the surface, between density and sparseness».
